This is achieved by a sensor-mounted device inserted into the visor which detects sound made by the wearer to send the message. This device contains speech-detection interface technology which analyzes sound waves and converts them into digital signals and displays the resulting messages and commands. Functions: • Communications with people: The message (whether text, voice messages or call) can be send by signals emitted by the device and is received by a phone or another similar visor • Any message received by the wearer will automatically appear on the lens and will automatically be translated into any language that is understandable for the user • Communications with devices: The voice commands send by the wearer will run on the specified device through pervasive networks...

SUMMARY: "Human Factors challenges faced by emergency room physicians" Human factors issues are particularly important in real-time, mission critical settings such as nuclear power plants, battlefields, space, and aviation where there have been decades of extensive human factors research. Recently, the mission critical settings of emergency medicine and intensive care have finally received attention from human factors researchers. However, in contrast to traditional human factors engineering controlled domains, emergency medicine is messy. Rather than dealing with a single system, the emergency physician can be dealing with more than ten patients at a time, and has to navigate through shifting priorities that may be in conflict with each other. Furthermore, there may be less scope for redesigning the role of the physician then there would be for carrying out task analyses and redesigning roles for operators in engineered systems. Thus emergency medicine may be a field where...

Fran Berman, Vice President for Research and Professor of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Presents... Got Data? Building a Sustainable Digital Environment for Innovation in the Information Age Abstract: The ubiquitous availability of digital information has transformed the world as we know it, creating a paradigm shift from information-poor to information-rich that impacts nearly every area of modern life. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the research community. Today, data from scientific instruments, sensors, on-line surveys, audio and video, social network communications and many other sources have accelerated our ability to discover, innovate, and understand the world around us. Providing adequate stewardship of this digital information, and ensuring that needed data is accessible now and sustainable for the foreseeable future, are among the most critical challenges of our time. In this talk, RPI Vice President for Research and computer scientist Fran...
Interaction Design of a Remote Clinical Robot for Ophthalmology

This paper presents an interactive design project of a remote clinical robot for ophthalmology, for use in support of telemedicine. The project is a case study of finding the best organizational structure of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Solid User Interface (SUI) in the age of ubiquitous computing. At the early stage of design, we carried out usability tests with paper-based prototypes and obtained requirements from ophthalmologists. Results showed that paper prototyping is applicable for GUI- and SUI-combined products, even they have manual control input and continuously changing visual feedback. We examine lessons learned from the design process and designed product. Recorded: 02/01/2012 CERIAS Security Seminar at Purdue University Is it time to add Trust to the Future Internet/Web? George Vanecek, Futurewei Technologies The future web, and Internet, are undergoing a humanization of their technologies which increasingly make their services more personalized, individualized and transparent. This is jointly fueled by the inexpensive yet easily accessible huge computing and storage capacities in clouds, the adoption of personal, mobile smart devices used across consumer/enterprise interchangeably, and the emergence of personal agents and services attaining personalized perception of the real-world and its control on behalf of the users. In this human/machine convergences, trust is being recognized as potentially playing a huge role in addressing future human/machine security, commerce and social on-line issues. However, trust has been adopted only partially and independently by certain services and not made integral in the fabric of the Internet or...

Ever lost your work laptop or tablet? Confident your mobile workforce is secure? How to avoid that call to your IT department and how the smart companies have it covered -- are you one of them.... 365iT Mobile Security One of the fastest growing threats to the security of your organisation's information is the rapid adoption of mobile computing devices such as tablets, smartphones, notebooks and the ubiquitous USB drive. The security of these connected mobile devices in the workplace is absolutely critical to your security strategy because data breaches involving lost or stolen mobile devices remains a continuous and expensive threat. Research suggests that mobile device-related security breaches consistently cost more than other types, chiefly because investigation into lost or stolen devices is inherently difficult and costly. Is it time to review your mobile security? Call our experts to find out how 365it can help you on 0845 5055 365 or email sales@365itservices.co.uk

Local government is slow, and it doesn't have a way to easily hear what its individual citizens have to say. What if there were a way to contribute your ideas in public, and see how your thoughts and opinions mesh with those of your fellow citizens? AGORA offers an easy way to organize and cluster citizen-submitted ideas naturally. Created for Interaction Design Studio, this is a presentation video for Ubiquitous Computing project. For more free learning resource visit www.bhaumiknagar.com Ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is a post-desktop model of human-computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities. In the course of ordinary activities, someone "using" ubiquitous computing engages many computational devices and systems simultaneously, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so.
