Nebe Na Zemi (Heaven on Earth) is a site-specific performance piece created for the Corpus Christi Chapel (Božího Těla), The Art Centre of University Palacky, Olomouc, CZ. The 32 minute work for soprano, four-channel interactive electronics and three video projections explores the coexistence of the 17th and 21st centuries sonically and visually, inspired by daily life in Olomouc on the eve of the Velvet Revolution's 20th anniversary, examining issues of labor, wealth, crisis and salvation. Created for the Baroque-era chapel in The Art Centre, the interactive electronics are an evolving series of programming that process recordings of music by local Baroque-era composer Pavel Vejvanovský into "fabrics" of electroacoustic sound. In his work, Spriggs examines the particular symbolic, perceptual, social, political, and historical connotations attached to individual colours. The tradition of the monochrome is considered in the artist's chroma-centric practice. She does XFit and some other stuff, I don't know, all I know is that she can do more pushups than me now and that ticks me off. As we get into our dreaded 40's she's getting in better shape and I'm embracing the limitations of my aging frame much more gracefully ("I know I'm getting chubby, leave me alone, my body has limitations, man!!") Anyway, she mopes around the house with those occasional gripes and moans about aches and pains and I comfort her to the best of my ability ("We're getting old, stop pushing it girl"). One of her common aches seems to reside in her wrists because she likes to show off how many dog-gone pushups she can do in front of her XFit buddies and that puts a lot of strain on all of those 39+ year old bones in the wrists.
