Lewis's story will be featured on the A World of Smiles Telethon on Sunday May 27, 2012. Lewis is 1.5 years old -- he was born in Jubilee Hospital in Vernon. At 20 weeks in utero, he was diagnosed with cleft lip and palate and because of this he required some surgeries to repair his lip and palate. At 3 months old he had a special type of tape over his lip that helped close the gap a little bit and will help to minimize surgery in the future. For his palate, he wore a molded plate to help with his ability to feed (he can't breast feed with this condition), breathe, and even balance. At 9 months of age, he had his palate surgery where stretched the right side of his palate to help form the left side so it's complete. At 9 years old, they will take a piece of his hip bone to finish repairing his palate. While he is home full time now, we do need to visit BCCH quite often.
