This is another slow motion video clip of my 6yr son Ethan blowing a dandelion snowball - aka a "taraxacum". I had to make sure there was full sun on the snowball, because this video mode needs a lot of light to work well and not appear "grainy". It was taken from a Nikon J1 in Slow Motion video mode taken at 400 fps and played back normally. So a 5 second clilp gets "expanded" out to 1minute 7 secs using this feature on the camera. The video aspect ratio is very wide and cannot be changed, it's fixed like that. In this mode as well, you can ONLY take 5 secs of action, so plan your action well and have good lighting, and keep the camera still! This is a fun feature to have, though the size of the video is quite small.

"Freight Shred" was shot at the Port of Richmond on the morning of April 30th, 2012. I love trains and generally will pull out of traffic grab a tripod and my pocket camera and start shooting. This time I got 5 shots off, 2 waist level (1/2 x in camera slow motion) and 3 very low angle shots in real time that caught the belly of the empty cars thanks to the versatility of the Joby Gorillapod. I wanted to cover all 5 shots in 1 minute. To meet my goaI, I needed to overlap shots. I cut it so the first shot is laid down as a background shot with the 2nd shot shredded and overlaid (by compositing, cropping, and track motion). Then continuing with the 2nd shot as the background and the 3rd shot is shredded on top of it, and so on until the last shot which has itself as the background and the shred.
