The Good! The American Auto Industry. USA Today is reporting that automakers are now working at "maximum capacity" - hiring third work shifts, paying out overtime, and even adding six day work weeks to meet the high demand for American made cars. The Bad! Kansas Republican Governor Sam Brownback. Kansas already has one of the most regressive tax systems in the country with the poorest 20% of Kansans paying 9% of their incomes on taxes - while the richest 1% pay less than 6% of their incomes on taxes. And the very, very ugly. Fox so-called News. Another new study is out showing that Fox viewers are substantially less informed about the news than those who watch no news at all.

TOPIC 1: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT. The Missouri and Kansas legislatures have concluded their sessions. Missouri lawmakers failed to take any action on legislation involving the Kansas City school district. TOPIC 2: A TAXING SITUATION. Once again, Senator McCaskill was late in making a tax payment. She's now in the midst of a heated re-election campaign and pollsters say it could be a tight race. TOPIC 3: ANOTHER TAX ELECTION FOR KC. It appears two tax issues will be on the August 7th ballot. One would raise the Kansas City sales tax by half-a-cent. In return, certain property taxes and other fees would be dropped. The other would authorize a 500-million dollar bond issue for sewer improvements. We will discuss both. TOPIC 4: ANTI-SOCIAL? A Kansas City Star story says both Democratic and Republican politicos and consultants tend to believe social issues will be on the back burner for this year's campaigns. Instead, the emphasis will be on the economy.
