This technique should teach you to use the muscles of your back correctly during all other rowing exercises, and also help with finishing phase of both Deadlifts and Pull-ups: -Bar lying "DEAD" on the bench -Shins/knees touch sides of the bench -Scapula retraction (shoulder blades pulled together) to lift off -pause in the bottom quarter of the thigh -continue pull with arms (elbows traveling backwards, shoulder blades still together) -the bar travels sliding on top of thighs all the way up (and down) -pause on top of the thighs -reverse all the sequence -HIGHER REPS are encouraged due to short range of motion, to allow longer TUT (Time Under Tension). For muscle growth the set should take time in the range 20-75sec . 1-20 seconds gives strength adaptations, over 75 seconds gives strength-endurance adaptation, both unlikely to make your back much bigger.

Failed my first attempt at Rank 3 due to poor technique. I slowed down the pace (80 reps total) and tried to make the adjustments suggested. I'm currently under 73.5 kg and I needed 54 reps to qualify, any comments on whether or not these reps would be counted is appreciated. I want to make rank so I can compete with the 24 kgs in Chicago this October in the 70 kg class.

Done after too many muscle-ups to beat my 28. :( At 22 reps I already knew I wasn't going to reach 28 lol (maybe would have got to 25), so I gave up. On a positive note, zero momentum from my legs and pretty powerful compared to last time. Recorded on May 25, 2012 using a Flip Video camera.

I was kind of pissed off so decided to do 405 for as many reps as I could. I haven't really squatted more than three reps in a set in a while (at least not this calendar year). I was going for 12 and thought the last successful rep was #12. Pretty disappointed in this, but squatting strength is not a priority in my current goals.

This is not a regular curl. First part of the movement works the mid hamstring. I stop just short of a full curl to my glutes keeping tension on my hamstrings while pushing UP on the roller pad...this movement hits the glutes hard! I did 15 reps then lightened the weight and cranked out 25 reps of regular curls. Have fun!
