A multinational joint military exercise in the desert of southern Jordan was opened to the media on Thursday with King Abdullah II in attendance. Under the code "Eager Lion 2012", the exercise is the largest of its kind in the Middle East in a decade. It brings together more than 12000 soldiers from 19 countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Great Britain, France and the United States. The exercise scale on Thursday was the largest since "Eager Lion" kicked off on May 7, with scenarios giving troops a chance to learn how to carry out attacks on ground targets in coordination with artillery and air forces. Military officials say the drills are not directed at any particular country. He spent time with the children and patiently browsed a drawing and photo album they had made for him. COPENHAGEN, Denmark - On Mohammed's birthday, Denmark's Muslims marched to the city square under a banner that said "Islam is peace and love." But elements of Denmark's Muslim community have radicalized. Two years ago on the same spot as a peaceful demonstration, Muslims met a pro-Israel demonstration with Hitler salutes. There were shouts in Arabic of "takbir," which means "conquest," and "kill the Jews." Fostering Radicalism Americans may think of Denmark as the tough nation that stood up to Islam over the publication of Mohammed cartoons. But Denmark is also infected with the some of the same multiculturalism that has been declared a failure in other European nations because it can foster Islamic radicalism. Now, Copenhagen city government is allowing construction of a Shia mosque, which will be funded in part by the radical regime in Iran. Iranian refugees to Denmark who fled the Islamic radicalism in Iran now face the nightmare of that radicalism following them to Copenhagen....

On May 25, the Refugee Action Collective held a protest outside the Department of Immigration to demand that they free mother or two, Ranjini, a Tamil refugee who faces indefinite detention due to ASIO's negative security checks. They have no right to review or appeal the decision, nor do they have the right to know the grounds on which they have been rejected. Three Tamil refugees rejected by ASIO have attempted suicide in Broadmeadows detention centre. Alongside this mounting despair inside the camps, there is a growing chorus of outrage against this affront to natural justice. Join the Refugee Action Collective (Vic) in calling on the government to scrap ASIO checks. Refugees are threatened by persecution and danger, not a security threat. The government must act immediately to release the refugees into the community.
