I put the spoon covered in food down onto the white table cloth. I sighed deeply while wiping my sweaty forehead. "You okay, Sel?" Mary said walking up to me. I nodded and sighed again. "It's just really hot out here." I said. She laughed, digging into her bag, then pulling out a water bottle with precipitation on it. "Here." She said passing it to me. I immediately screwed the top open and gulped down a big sip. "Thanks." I said, pulling it away from my lips. She nodded and walked off. A little boy caught my eye. A tall lady with blonde hair was bending down infront of him. "Honey, can't you just say 'hi' at least?" She asked him desperately. He just continued to stare at her, as if none of the words she said made any sense to him. I placed the water bottle down and walked up to the boy and the lady. "Um, hi. Is everything okay?" I asked. The lady stood up straight, sighing. "Can you try making him talk? He hasn't talked ever since that Tsunami. And he hasn't even took one glance...

It would take a long-lasting, large-scale weather event, such as a tropical storm or hurricane, to bring a complete end to our year-long drought in North Central Florida. However, an early start to the rainy season and near-normal summer rainfall could signal the beginning of the end. Florida's rainy season starts, on average, during the last week of May in southern Florida, then usually begins a few days later in the northern part of the state. Most forecasters refer to the rainy season as the period from June until mid-October when showers and thunderstorms are common during the late afternoon or evening hours, usually diminishing around sunset. Conditions are becoming favorable for this type of activity over the Memorial Day weekend. The criteria most often associated with those summer downpours in this part of the country are air temperatures near 90 degrees, water temperatures at or above 80, and a dewpoint (the temperature at which condensation occurs) consistently near 70....

This narrated animation was made possible with federal support through Natural Resource Canada's Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Program. Basement flooding is a large and growing problem for residents, municipalities and insurers across Canada. In just the past few years there have been several events that have resulted in basement flooding in both larger and smaller communities across the country. Indeed, almost no community in Canada is immune from basement flooding. After a few days of steady rain, when spring snow-melt occurs or during an extreme rainfall event, the soil around your home can become saturated with water. Steady snow-melt and precipitation can also raise the ground water level to a point where it is higher than your basement floor. This groundwater can infiltrate into basements through cracks in basement walls (or foundation walls) and floors. Infiltration flooding can be a significant problem in older homes where mortar has weakened over the years and...

Subscribe @ www.youtube.com for the biggest archive on Youtube. jetstreamnews.com Scientist Sir Charles Shults III of Xenotech Research(1) returned to the show to talk about such topics as fossils on Mars, space elevator technology, and energy alternatives. He advocated the setting up of Earth orbiting stations which could collect energy from the sun and then beam it down to antenna arrays on the ground. A program such as this could be set up within seven years, he estimated. The technology for constructing a carbon fiber space elevator is here, said Shults. Super strong lightweight "nanotubes" could be held aloft in orbit and once the first one was launched, more of them could be easily assembled from space. "I don't believe intelligent life arose on Mars," Shults declared, though he does think that primitive sea life once existed there. He didn’t rule out the possibility that intelligent life may have visited Mars at some point. Currently, there appears to be some...

The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) is an international satellite mission to provide next-generation observations of rain and snow worldwide every three hours. NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will launch a "Core" satellite carrying advanced instruments that will set a new standard for precipitation measurements from space. The data they provide will be used to unify precipitation measurements made by an international network of partner satellites to quantify when, where, and how much it rains or snows around the world. The GPM mission will help advance our understanding of Earth's water and energy cycles, improve the forecasting of extreme events that cause natural disasters, and extend current capabilities of using satellite precipitation information to directly benefit society. credit: NASA / Goddard Space Flight Center source: svs.gsfc.nasa.gov
