(WJBK) May 17, 2012 - It's called the "Stand Your Ground" law. More than a dozen Michigan lawmakers want to get rid of it. They're afraid that the current law will lead to vigilante justice. More than 24 states, including Michigan, have some version of the "Stand Your Ground" law. Michigan's went into effect on October 1, 2006. Now, these politicians say they're not aware as of yet that this law has lead to any unnecessary violence, but they want to prevent it from happening. The streets of Detroit are described by some residents as the wild, wild west. Detroit Police are overwhelmed responding to carjackings, robberies and shootings. More and more citizens are becoming fed up and arming themselves. "The violence and the crime is rampant," said state representative Tim Bledsoe, a democrat. Young Leader Kicks Off Police Week | "Leading the Way to a Safer Tomorrow" Judging by the extraordinary leadership already displayed by high school student Kristopher Sousa, it's safe to say that Toronto is in capable hands. The Grade 11 St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School 17-year-old is the student representative on the provincially-established Safe Schools Committee, the venue co-ordinator for the Music Not Mischief program, the leader of his school's Action team and a volunteer and mentor for young people at Wallace Emerson Community Centre, the YMCA and Dovercourt Boys & Girls Club. With the approval of retired Supt. Ruth White, Sousa established the first Youth Community Police Liaison Committee (YCPLC) in 14th Division which he hopes will be a template for YCPLCs in the other 16 police divisions. Indeed, Watari's rebelliousness seems far more shocking in the context of Japanese society, where respect for authority and conformity are supposedly ingrained. Above all, the film's theme is the lack of honour in Japanese society. The police are corrupt, and in many respects indistinguishable from the Yakuza. The central character develops a close relationship with one of the mobsters, whom he discovers is far more honourable and trustworthy than his police colleagues. The European Regional Conference is a meeting where policy and strategy matters concerning improvement of police co-operation between the European member states and the crime situation are discussed on the basis of preparatory work carried out by the INTERPOL European Committee, the Sub-Directorate for Europe, officials in the General Secretariat, special working groups and on contributions from delegations. According to the Terms of Reference for INTERPOL Regional Conferences, the European Conference may take decisions which involve the development of activities related to basic matters connected with criminality and police strategy in the region. Working groups can be set up on different strategic and operational subjects and they report back to the Conference on their activities. The Conference has no constitutional power to adopt resolutions. Recommendations are submitted to the General Assembly for adoption.

In the fall of 1994, a discussion was initiated in the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce Crime Awareness Committee, chaired by Larry Lipton, about creating an event for the public to meet and learn more about law enforcement and the local agencies serving the 1960 area. Spring ISD Chief of Police Alan Bragg informed the committee that a similar concept was ongoing in the Spring Independent School District for the students at elementary schools coordinated by Houston Police Department officer Tim Galligan.
