05/23/2012 HOUSTON—A parent at Varnett Charter School says her 4-year-old child, who is in pre-kindergarten, was locked in a dark closet for laughing in class. Kendrick was one of several young students to be placed in the locked closet for five minutes at a time. The kids say they were told it was not just any closet. "There is a monster in there!" Kendrick said. "They just referred to it as the monster closet," said Kelicia Johnson-Chaney. The boy said his teacher told him a monster was in the closet. The teacher, and a teachers aid, are accused of not just telling the story, but allegedly putting several three and 4-year-old children in the dark janitor closet for five minutes at a time as punishment for acting up in class. The children said they held the door closed with their feet while the children cried inside. "I don't like going in the closet. Because it is scary," Kendrick said. His mom said he got so upset he vomited and had to go home from school. She said she cannot...

We were unsure of how Millie would react to having a baby in the family and her no longer being an only child, but are pleased that she is very king, patient and caring towards her new baby brother. Once CPS takes over, you can see the drastic changes for yourself. Tracking every student's move. Northside ISD is rolling out new technology that does just that.At school, it can be hard to keep track of everyone. "I'm always worried about my daughter being at school," said Ernest Castro, a parent. "I check on my kids everytime I come in, it's like once a week I come in to check on the attendance," said Gina Lopez, another parent. For lopez, knowing her kids are in class at Northside's John Jay High School is about to get easier. The school is launching a pilot program to track students through a chip in their student ID cards. "That's a wonderful idea for them to do that," said Lopez.Right now, if you are not physically sitting in a desk, you're marked absent. So if your in the clinic visiting the nurse, or you're in the hallway or even in the front office, it doesn't count. The new program would change that. "If we increase our attendance rate by just 1%, that's an additional $4.5 million dollars," said Pascual Gonzalez, Northside ISD spokesman....
