This is a talk by Hugh Massengill, speaking to a University of Oregon class, FHS 216, Diversity in Family and Human Services, on May 22, 2012. He speaks of his own experiences growing up in a traumatic environment, learning from that "template for learned dysfunction" to live on the street, and to isolate and dissociate to the point of being lost within himself. He describes what life in state and Veterans' Administration mental hospitals was like, and then he talks of the miracle of love, which he defines as "the ability to take absolute delight in a person place or thing, sort of a puppies and kittens thing". (Note: this was recorded on a Panasonic HC-V700 camcorder in 60P, edited on FCPX, uploaded to YouTube in 720P quality. He used a Zoom H1 as a personal mic.
