"At Last" is a 1941 song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Orchestra Wives, starring George Montgomery and Ann Rutherford. It was performed in the film and on record by Glenn Miller and his orchestra, with vocals by Ray Eberle and Pat Friday. Unreleased recordings of the song, however, had been made in 1941 by Glenn Miller for possible inclusion in the film Sun Valley Serenade. An orchestral version of the song without lyrics first appeared in that movie in 1941. A new version was recorded by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra in Chicago on May 20, 1942, and released by RCA Victor Records as a 78 single, catalogue number 27934-B, backed with the A side "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo". The song reached number 9 on the Billboard pop charts in 1942, staying on the charts for 9 weeks, and later became a standard. In 1960, it was covered by blues singer Etta James in an arrangement that improvised on Warren's melody. James' version was the title track in the...

thefilmarchive.org February 21, 2012 The transition from country to urban blues, that began in the 1920s, had always been driven by the successive waves of economic crisis and booms and the associated move of the rural Blacks to urban areas, the Great Migration. The long boom in the aftermath of World War II induced a massive migration of the African American population, the Second Great Migration, which was accompanied by a significant increase of the real income of the urban Blacks. The new migrants constituted a new market for the music industry. The name race record disappeared and was succeeded by Rhythm and Blues. This rapidly evolving market was mirrored by the Billboard Rhythm and Blues Chart. This marketing strategy reinforced trends within urban blues music such as the progressive electrification of the instruments, their amplification and the generalization of the blues beat, the blues shuffle, that became ubiquitous in R&B. This commercial stream had important...

Lyle & Murray - The Bible Strikes Again
Tags: johnlyle johnmurray song guitars protest capitalpunishment Bible Christianity rock blues lyleandmurray torture righteousness
When he was a child, Henry Fonda was taken by his father to witness a lynching. When he became a movie star, he used his bankable status to convince Twentieth Century Fox to produce the anti capital punishment classic "The Ox-Bow Incident." I've used scenes from the movie to make a video for John Murray's and my song "The Bible Strikes Again." These scenes depict the bitter aftermath of the Henry Fonda character's futile attempt to stop the lynching of innocent men. I've wanted to write a song protesting capital punishment, exploring the idea of how divine right to take a life is implicitly asserted even in countries like the US where a supposedly advanced president like Obama endorses the practice. We're still living in 'Biblical Times' when crime and punishment are the norm and 'justice' is nothing but legalized murder. The song is done, and up on the player thanks to the blood, sweat and tears of John Murray who floated into town, rolled up his sleeves and allowed me to feed off...

Barack Obama sings the news with Jimmy Fallon. Hey there, I'm Karli Bulnes, the must-see clip and the president's other impromptu performances are all in today's PopSugar Rush. "What we've said is simple, now is not the time to make school more expesive for our young people . . . aww yeah...(cheers)." Jimmy Fallon backed up President Barack Obama as the two took part in one of the late night talk show's regular bits — slow jamming the news. The President put a smooth spin on his student loan stance during the show, which was taped Tuesday at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, but this isn't Barack's first time breaking into song . . . "Walk on By" (2007) "When you see me walking down, walk on by!" Back in 2007, the then-senator sang Dionne Warwick's hit "Walk on By" in front of the singer, who was in the audience at a democratic rally in New Jersey . . . "Chain of Fools" (2008) "Chain chain chain . . . chain of fools" The following year, he took on Aretha Franklin's...

Preisdential Canidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama sing Don't Stop Believing by Journey. Enjoy Lyrics: Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit He took the midnight train goin' anywhere A singer in a smokey room A smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on [ Lyrics from: www.lyricsfreak.com ] (Chorus) Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching in the night Streetlights people, living just to find emotion Hiding, somewhere in the night. Working hard to get my fill, Everybody wants a thrill Payin' anything to roll the dice, Just one more time Some will win, some will lose Some were born to sing the blues Oh, the movie never ends It goes on and on and on and on (Chorus) Don't stop believin' Hold on to the feelin' Streetlights people Don't stop believin' Hold on Streetlight people Don't stop believin'...

The One Percent - Original composition by Christopher Spanos I wanna be in the 1%, I wanna live carefree, I wanna be in the 1% where the law can never touch me. 40 years of voting I ain't seen a change both sides been saying the same old things, Instead of getting better things have only gotten worse, looks like they're rigged the game. I wanna be in the 1%, I wanna live like a king, I wanna be in the 1% where your dreams are reality. I can posion the air steal your homes, take away your jobs trick you into a war. Make you fight each other, make you think you're free, while I rob you all blind bring you to your knees. I wanna be in the 1%, I wanna live like a king, I wanna be in the 1% where your dreams are reality. . . . . I wanna be in the one percent, I wanna live carefree. I wanna be in the 1% where the law can't ever touch me. . . . I can do no wrong bonus guaranteed, let the public cry they got a short memory, I can gamble with their money and even if I lose, they'll bail me...
