This camera films in full HD 1080p and 2 frame rates(24p/60p) great for creative filmmaking. I have some DSLRs that I film with and they work great together. Though not a "DSLR Killer" as Sony may have wanted it to be, it does have two features that make event videography way easier; continuous filming without overheating and I can film and keep it plugged in at the same time. (Though the battery holds a charge for quite sometime. (All of my shoots have been about 2 1/2 Hours and the battery hasn't reached half yet.) There were were some moire issues but with proper lighting techniques all issues were gone, other than aliasing with close-lined patterns. (Not a big deal to me at the moment.) As for sound, it's really good maybe, a little to good, so you may have to get separate audio for clean voice audio a good...

This is the first video taken with my new Sony NEX FS100. We had 8 hours for set up and shooting. Audience was available for one hour. Exposure was a challenge due to the low intensity red LED-lightning. Setup of the gain steps 0, 9, 18 dB was too coarse, so I crushed the highlights in several scenes. I used a Tokina 11-16 and a Tamron 17-50 with Novoflex E-mount adapter.

Works for all AVCHD cameras Make sure to download the AVCHD plugin from Avid's website. It's required for this workflow: www.avid.com I'm using Symphony 6 here but the workflow is identical in Media Composer. We start with AMA native AVCHD playback, then cut offline DNxHD36 files and relink to the originals, and then wrap up with encoding for the web using Sorenson Squeeze 8.5 and x264. Sony just announced the NEX-FS700 camera and, lucky for us, they brought it by for a quick peek. It has all the features of the FS100 but with some big improvements including a 3G-SDI output, ND filters and high-speed recording options. Of course, the really big news is that the camera is "4k Ready," meaning that in the future it will be able to output 4K 12-bit RAW data over the 3G-SDI connection. The list price of the camera will be around $10000, and it should ship in June of this year. While it's always embarrassing to crash, it's important that you learn from it, and even more important that people know the TRUTH. The guy that posted this video www.youtube.com about 6 months ago is a LIAR, and should not be trusted. He posted the first :52 seconds (cutting off the rest). I have the original footage and have uploaded the entire clip (as embarassing as it is) so you can see the truth for yourself. This guy had contacted me because he was looking for an RC Helicopter pilot for a project he was doing. I had just gotten my Octocopter and invited him to see a demo. He brought along his Sony NEX 5N (not an FS 100 as he had claimed). At first I flew the helicopter around with no camera on it, to show my abilities to fly. After he was satisfied, we then mounted his camera onto the helicopter and since it was HIS camera, I purposefully flew only 3 to 4 feet above the ground.
