He is a member of the Republican Party, and the current Chairman of the National Governors Association. He was elected to full four-year terms in 2006 and 2010, at the end of his second full term, Heineman will become the longest-serving governor in Nebraska history with 10 years of service. Heineman lived in a variety of places in eastern Nebraska during his youth, eventually attending high school in Wahoo, Nebraska. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1970. He served five years in the US Army, leaving with the rank of captain. He also graduated the Army Ranger training program. Heineman served on the Fremont City Council from 1990 to 1994. He also served two terms as the Nebraska State Treasurer from 1994 to 2001, and was appointed the 37th Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska on October 1, 2001. He was elected to his first full term as...

On May 6, 2012, 10000 runners took part in the Lincoln National Guard Marathon, including 216 National Guard runners representing 44 states and two territories who were competing for a spot on the elite All-Guard Marathon Team. Of those, seven represented the North Dakota National Guard. Each year, only 40 men and 15 women make the top spots and represent the National Guard at marathons and recruiting events across the country. Watch as the North Dakota Guardsmen finish on the 50-yard line of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Memorial Stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Video by Master Sgt. The Seminole War Canoe was a longstanding tradition between the University of Miami and the University of Florida -- presented to the winner of the annual football game. It was rescued from a trash pile by former UM football player Don Mariutto in 1978. In this video, the canoe is decorated and on display at the Mariutto home prior to Miami's Orange Bowl game vs. the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Jan. 2, 1984. Today, the canoe has been restored and is on permanent display at the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame building in Coral Gables.

On Thursday, Ohio State released their rosters for the annual spring game on Saturday. After looking through both rosters, one local name was missing, Kenny Hayes. The Whitmer alum is a red-shirt freshman defensive lineman for the Buckeyes this season. On Friday, we were informed by an OSU spokesman, "He's dealing with a medical issue." We asked if he was still on the team and the answer was, "yes." That's all we know. We spoke with Hayes when he was back in Toledo attending one of brother Nigel's basketball games, in January. He told us he felt great and was excited to play for Urban Meyer. Elsewhere, a pair of former northwest Ohioans will look to make their imprint with the Nebraska Cornhuskers this year. Central Catholic alum Mike Marrow and Springfield alum Kevin Williams are expected to see significant playing time. Marrow's journey has been an incredible one.
