Landscape Technology Urban design project, Cape Town A seven kilometer route through Cape Town city bowl was identified as an urban study area for this project. Students were tasked with documenting the route for the purpose of urban analysis through mapping and plotting. A continuous photo collage strip was created- flattening the zigzag rout as a single unbroken image. The strip measures 42 meters in length. The strip was then used for studying the different layers of urban information. Experiences and physical entities were geo-referenced onto the strip. The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the deployment of mobile police officers to watch over the underneath of bridges in Apapa Lagos, where illegal occupants were recently evacuated. Lagos state police public relations officer Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, disclosed this today. Jaiyeoba added that the order was part of security measures put in place in the state. The PPRO said that the igp gave the order on tuesday while inspecting some parts of Lagos, as part of his official tour. Illegal occupants under the Apapa-Ijora bridges were recently evacuated, while all structures were demolished by the Lagos state government. The police spokesman said ig was impressed by the evacuation of the illegal occupants, stressing that such efforts would assist the police to check activities of hoodlums.

Maritime Union of Australia National Secretary Paddy Crumlin has expressed concern that wharfies have been unfairly targeted by an AFP crackdown on waterfront crime. While the Union supports comprehensive efforts to reduce crime in the Australian import /export and supply chain sector, Mr Crumlin said there was no case for focusing solely on the stevedoring workforce. "The overwhelming majority of the stevedoring workforce are law abiding and today's measures are targeting innocent people and their livelihoods," Mr Crumlin said. "Of the 16 arrests made since July 2010, only one person was a waterfront worker, and another a former waterfront worker, so there is a bigger picture that needs to be focused on. "Weaknesses in crime detection have been identified in the sector including customs, quarantine and private sector management of freight forwarding and stevedoring.
