Hanumanthpur, May 24 (ANI): Maoists killed the husband of a village head in Maoist-hit Rayagada district of Odisha taking advantage of the mudslinging between the state government and top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda over the alleged ongoing anti-rebel operations.Wife of Dev Gagranga and Hanumanthpur village head, Lahari Gagranga, said that the rebels had demanded rupees 10000 from her husband and since he failed to pay the amount, the extremists killed him. Dev Gagranga's brother, Pradip Gagranga, said his brother had requested them to give him one-month's time, but they did not pay heed to his request and shot him dead.

Guwahati/ Jhargram, May 24 (ANI): A top Maoist leader Indranil Chanda, was produced before the designated court at Guwahati, after sleuths of the West Bengal Task Force arrested him from his hometown in Kolkata. According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), sources suspected Indranil was in-charge of Maoist activities in Assam and also a key liaison between the Maoist and Peoples Liberation Army in Manipur. Meanwhile at Jhargram in West Bengal, seven Maoists surrendered before the top brass of state police and paramilitary forces. One Maoist identified as Jagannath Soren, has been reported to be a close aide of rebel leader Kishenji.

Chhattisgarh, May 23 (ANI): One policeman was killed and another seriously injured in a landmine blast triggered by Maoist in Pamed police station of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. Udaybhan Singh Thakur, Assistant Sub Inspector told reporters that both the policemen were on. Expressing his anger on the incident, State Home Minister, Nanki Ram Kanwar, lashed out at ultras and said that there was an urgent need to effectively combat the Maoists. The Maoists have fought a decades-long war against the government in a wide swath of central and east India.

Khunti, May 22 (ANI): Police officials in Jharkhand's Khunti district recovered a cache of arms from Maoist insurgents, following a shootout. Acting on a tip-off, a police force was dispatched to a forest near Karra village to intercept a meeting of the banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) outfit. The Maoists have fought a decades-long war against the government in a wide swath of central and east India. They say they are fighting for the poor and landless and often back farmers in land disputes with big business. Hundreds of people are killed every year in the conflict, although the levels of violence have fallen in recent years.
