"Engaging in Their Legacy" is a photography and video project based on the families who made an effort in restoring the history of Japanese Americans during the World War II Executive Order 9066. This took place near Highway 395 called Manzanar, also known as an American Concentration Camp. My journey also led me to another direction called the Tule Lake Segregation Center. Initially, I considered photographing the Stockade in Tule Lake, latrines, and barracks in black and white film. In addition to the photographs, I decided to use video recordings to show a comprehensive perspective by interviewing the people who were displaced in Manzanar and Tule Lake (California), Gila River (Arizona), and Manitoba (Canada). In this tutorial, I show you how to combine all your individual exposures of the night sky into one single long exposure image. First of all, download the Adobe Photoshop action: theamusing.com Then, follow this tutorial. Alternatively, you can keep the shutter open for hours at a time. But in a lot of cases, areas of high light will be completely washed out and could potentially damage your sensor. And, of course, with taking a number of stills as the night sky moves around the picture, you can submit your images to the final Dorset by Night video. Happy shooting!
