Steve Crecelius is a prominent local photographer. He's lived his entire life as a man but recently discovered — he is in fact a female. "I remember wearing my mom's clothes and makeup, very secretly, not telling anybody," Crecelius said. From a young age, Crecelius identified more with being a female, but hid behind a male persona. "When I was 17, I was working my first part-time job at a TV station as a floor cameraman and the person in charge said to me, 'You know, you walk like a queer.' And I thought I was hiding who I was, and I wasn't," he said. About 40 years later, a revelation: "I had a kidney stone and we're in the emergency room," Crecelius said. "The nurse is reading the ultrasound and says, 'Huh, this says you're a female'." It turns out Steve was born intersex, meaning he has both male and female parts. The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan has been helping domestic animals in our local community since 1934. This is a "No Kill Shelter" so when all of the cages are full, there is a waiting list for admission. Last year more than 500 animals were adopted. Some went to homes here in Berrien County. Many were adopted by people from outside this area, even from other states. They find these animals through the shelters website, www.humanesocietyswm.org. The Humane Society cannot be sustained by adoption fees alone. This is a non-profit 501c3 organization which receives no state or federal funding. Part of the operating budget comes from foundations and trusts. Fund raising events and private donations must make up the rest. The biggest way to help is to donate. If you can't donate, adopt. If you can't adopt, volunteer. Providing a loving future for the animals it cares for cannot be done without more support. Will you help?

Read Me! I was inspired to do a masquerade makeup tutorial because of a charity masquerade ball that I attended awhile back. I remember getting lots of compliments on my look, so I wanted to share it with everyone. Since I've seen others do masquerade tutorials (mysterious & elegant), I wanted to do something different. I decided to do a Princess Masquerade Tutorial. With other tutorials, you normally see more dark colors with the dress or mask, so I'm doing more of light colors. My dress was a light yellow color, while my mask was cream white with gold glitter designs & feathers. Colors I used on my eyeshadow look was light soft creamy gold, light glittery sea blue, light glittery lavender, & dark glittery navy blue (which I blended so color wasn't too harsh). I really hope everyone enjoys this tutorial. I felt like it was cute & fun for those attending a special event like prom or a masquerade ball. Keep in mind. This is NOT an everyday look.
