Mose Fanfan & his band Somo Somo travel the road to Feile na Bealtaine in Dingle Co Kerry. With on-the-road video of the journey through the Kerry countryside to the venue on the Dingle peninsular and the live performance at the Skellig Hotel. The soundtrack ('Engombi' from the new CD Musicatelama) was recorded live at the concert on the night (including a very enthusiastic crowd) Engombi is an hommage to the great musical pioneers, "Alanga Nzembo" the writers of Congo Rumba Music. Here Fanfan sings about all the masters of Congolese music who wrote and sang the songs in Kinshasa in the early years of his time with Luambo and Longomba (the two great names of TP OK Jazz) who created the beat of Engombi, Odemba & the Wendo Kolosoy. Also of Henry Bowane who sang "Marie Louise", and Fanfan praises Adou Elenga the Congolese musician who wrote the first revolutionary song of the Congo independence "Atandele Mokili Ekobaluka" in 1947. And Matilda the Merc (Queen of the Marshes) sets out on...
Pepe Kalle & Empire Bakuba- Dadou 3 (Pepe Kalle) 1997
Tags: Pepe Kalle Empire Bakuba Mutuashi Kinshasa Africa
Now this is third take of the song DADOU. The title on the work MERCI MAMAN says DABOU BIS but the right name is DADOU. This is Dadou 3. This song is no different than the second take. The song has a rhythm called Mutuashi which alone made the star of Tshala Muana. I mean TSHALA MUANA. MUTUASHI is the dance on this song. Mutuashi is a dance that was formed by the Kaisi Occidental people who are the MULUBAS. Mulubas are the ones who made this dance and it became popular locally. Tshala Muana launched this dance in 1982 when Rumba and Soukous were the main two entities. Pepe Kalle was one of those who were more into soukous mode as well as some rumba mode too. Yet he was a Muluba though born in Kinshasa but he definitely kept his roots. This song indicates that big time. Here is the problem: Pepe Kalle made very few actual Mutuashi songs in his whole career. Plus, Mutuashi is better done by likes of Tshala Muana and Kaisi All-Stars. But I bet that some Mulubas who only like Pepe Kalle...
