Refugees from Sudan and South Sudan are leading an uneasy life in the Kakuma refugee camp in northern Kenya. After decades of war between Sudanese troops and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army, the SPLA has left at least two million people dead, and driven millions of others from their homes. South Sudan's separation from Sudan last July brought with it hope for a new beginning, but it hasn't been so easy. Daniel Maduol, UNHCR interpreter, fled his home in 1992 and has since been a refugee at the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. He wanted to find out just why he and many other nationals of Sudan and South Sudan would rather continue living as refugees in Kenya than return home. At the UNHCR reception center in Kakuma, Daniel Maduol was taking a family through their refugee status determination in the South Sudanese Dinka Language.
