Eritrean Education and Publication Trust (EEPT) organised a two-day conference (Mercorios Haile Memorial Conference) on 11 and 12 June 2011 in London. A change in Eritrea is inevitable and the recent developments in North Africa may accelerate it. However, this change could come at a time when there is no harmony between political parties and no functioning constitution. Furthermore, the lack of clarity in the roles of political parties and civil societies are likely to complicate the situation even further. These two concepts are not originally Eritrean. In Eritrea, the confusion between these two sectors may have started when the humanitarian wings (Eritrean Red Cross/Crescent Society and Eritrean Relief Association) were being managed by the Central Committees of the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF) and the Eritrean Peoples' Liberation Front (EPLF) respectively. This video is a summary of the conference, highlighting the various views of the different political party...

Ladsous' is in Syria to assess progress made on the ground by UN military observers and to meet with Government officials and representatives of the opposition. On Friday (18 May) Chief Military Observer General Robert Mood briefed journalists and noted that the 260 military observers from 60 nations do not constitute a "powerful tool in military terms" but it is significant as it represents the "international community coming together on the ground." Mood stressed that "no volume of observers can achieve a progressive drop and the permanent end to the violence if the commitment to give dialogue a chance is not genuine...

The Crimes of the Indian occupation forces, numbering more than half a million, against the people of Kashmir have now reached genocidal proportions, presenting the worst example of state-sponsored terrorism. Because, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were pledged by no less an authority than the UN Security Council to exercise their right to decide their future under conditions free from coercion and intimidation. However, the peaceful movement of the Kashmiri people for the realization of this right and the respect for their fundamental human rights has been crushed with brute force. Over the past six years, in particular, the suffering of the Kashmiri people has reached an indescribable intensity and magnitude. All human rights enshrined in the Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the human rights covenants have been flagrantly violated by the Indian security forces. Since October 1989, some 38000 Kashmiris have been killed by the Indian occupation forces, over...
