Gibson has taken the traditional Explorer's one-piece mahogany body and flipped it, so that the small horn is on top pointing upward and the larger horn is now positioned pointing downward. To highlight the unique body outline, a carbon fiber pickguard shaped like a lightning bolt has been added, extending the entire length of the body. The Reverse Explorer's neck profile is a hybrid between Gibson's standard '50s rounded contour and its slimmer '60s profile. This neck features a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with carbon fiber inlays at the fifth and 12th fret.
