Sometimes a book comes out & a shit ton of people read it & it's on the big table at borders (RIP) for like 2 years next to whatever Malcolm Gladwell just wrote. Sometimes I join the ranks of the shit ton and see what all the fuss is about. In the case of Erik Larson's Devil in The White City, I did not. Which as it turns out was a POOR DECISION AKA DECISION WITH NOT ENOUGH NICKELS. In short, I know I'm like a decade late on this one (the book came out in 2003), but I just finished Devil in The White City and I loved it so much that I haaad to do a book report. This one goes out to Rip Van Winkle. Devil in The White City centers on two contemporaneous narratives: (1) the conception, construction, and legacy of the 1893 world's fair in Chicago & (2) the lethal career of HH Holmes, one of the world's first -- and most prolific -- serial killers.
