The gist of the story behind this piece is my son really likes Star Trek: Voyager. He particularly loved the opening theme and insisted on hearing it out, even though, on Netflix, he could skip straight to the action. After about a season's worth of episodes, he wanted the theme on his iPod... I'm not much of a Star Trek fan, but Jerry Goldsmith is a composer's composer, so I took this opportunity to give myself a project: reverse engineer the TV theme, make my son an MP3 and, along the way, gain a little insight into the methods of a master. I didn't try to match the original, rather I tried to create a "bigger," more stately version that better suited my own sensibilities. Anyone looking for something note-for-note will be disappointed. A highway-rail grade crossing is a location where a public highway, road, street or private roadway, including associated sidewalks and pathways, crosses one or more railroad tracks at grade. There are approximately 220000 railroad crossings in the United States, of which approximately 137000 cross public roads. A collision between a train and a motorist at a grade crossing occurs approximately every two hours. Half of the crossing accidents happen where there are active warning devices, and more than 60% of accidents occur where train speed is less than 40 mph. It was bat-like monoplane with a wing span of 14 m (45'11″), a length of 6.5 m (21' 4″) and a wing area of 28 m² (300 ft.²) . This video was filmed over a three-day shoot in the Mojave Desert near Barstow, California. The music appeared in the intro video of the "Arcade" game of Gran Turismo 2 (PlayStation, except Japanese version), in the unreleased beta of Need for Speed: Carbon, and in the European version of Band Hero. "My Favourite Game" was written by guitarist Peter Svensson and lead singer Nina Persson during the recording sessions of the band's fourth studio album Gran Turismo between May and July 1998. The song, like the other songs from the album, was recorded in Tore Johansson's (then) newly developed Country Hell recording studio in Skurup, Sweden. The song was written about the band's love of playing Gran Turismo, especially while on their tour bus. Before recording on the song commenced, Svennson presented the song to producer Tore Johansson by playing the track on acoustic guitar. Here is a quick and dirty sound demo of an overdrive pedal commission that I'm building for a fellow community member over at the diystompboxes.com forum. The design of the pedal is based off a cook-your-own approach, which uses the basic circuit building blocks that are commonplace in many guitar distortion circuit designs, but arranged and tweaked as desired . So while I could technically say the overdrive is my own design, there are no significant or groundbreaking innovations in the circuit topology itself. At the heart of the design is an opamp-JFET hybrid distortion generator. The opamp uses LED feedback clippers and provides the bulk of the gain. The JFET adds flavor to the distortion, as well as a volume boost and smooth breakup. It is worth noting that existing designs like Distorque's Atomic Distortion, and the Keeley Electronics Luna Overdrive, both use the concept of an IC gain stage driving a JFET, so I am not the first and only to think of this, although I've been...

About this video (#12): Two Steps From Hell - Heart of Courage 2 weeks ago I discovered Two Steps From Hell and I immediately decided to cover one of their songs. With Heart of Courage I really tried to put the "epicness" and emotion of this song in my piano arrangement and I also included some other variations and improvisations throughout the song. (since the original is a little bit short) I also had alot of fun making this video. It was the first time I got help from a proffesional audio engineer with recording the grand piano. This worked out pretty good, if you ask me ;) , and I will be making my videos on the grand piano from now on.
