We at Beasts of The Theatre are pleased to invite you on our journey towards mounting the world premiere production of "Grey Ground" at the 2012 Toronto Fringe Festival. Directed by: Adam Pellerine Written by: Lindsay Finnie What does it mean to be a Beast? We all have something to say. We all have something to fight. We all have something to hate. We all have something to love. We are human; we are animals. We live in a polite, confined society where we avoid conflict, fear physical contact and communication, and our Prime Minister shakes his own children's hands when he drops them off at school. We're taught to repress what is natural to us so much that what is primal instinct now feels unnatural and strange. To be a beast of the theatre is to explore the animal that lives inside all of us, to go back to square one, how we all started, and journey through the things that truly make us human without the social constructs of society. Our work is to encourage each other to set that...

Vincent and Danny from Anathema chat to Stan Ambrose at BBC Merseyside about the nature of their music. It was a recording form a previous chat with Stan that was used as the intro on track 'Presence' from 'We're Here Because We're Here'. The bar for Weather Systems has been set pretty high with 2010's 'Were Here Because We're Here', but Daniel Cavanagh from the band is certain that the album will exceed these lofty expectations, 'it feels like we are at a creative peak right now, and this album reflects that. Everything from the production to the writing to the performances are a step up from our last album.' He continues, 'This is not background music for parties. The music is written to deeply move the listener, to uplift or take the listener to the coldest depths of the soul.' The intertwining melodic structures, the profoundly beautiful and intensely powerful - yet simple - songs will transport the listener closer to the heart of life, that is to say, to the heart of...

At CAFKA, smartphones were the test site for MATR 1291, a new sense organ for hearing time. In collaboration with the Communitech Apps Factory, spurse gleaned data from cell phone manufacturing and disposal techniques, physical environmental processes, changing economic conditions, and the movements of the MATR participating public through the city, to co-compose new experiences of our deep time (across millennia) entanglement with the world. The pulse, amplitude, and timbre of this interactive sound experiment is completely controlled by the collected data variables. During CAFKA, spurse held information sessions at City Hall where the public was introduced to the use of MATR. Participants conducted their own research, collected data and brought their experiences back to the research center. Information received will be fed into the system and will in turn inform the sound and help to broaden the scope of MATR research. Spurse is a creative consulting and design collaborative that...

Adm. Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations, Keynote Address | Current Strategy Forum | June 8, 2010 2010 marked the 61st annual Current Strategy Forum at the Naval War College in Newport. The forum explored the global system in transition. As Anne Marie Slaughter, the State Department's Director for Policy Planning, observed during the 2009 forum, international affairs are now less hierarchical, and less susceptible to solution by traditional policy mechanisms. Globalization has brought about an environment in which events can more rapidly transform the international system. Formal alliances and agreements often take too long to negotiate, or are less effective and adaptive compared to more "networked" approaches to global problems or immediate crises. Hierarchical or flat, the system still requires leadership to establish the goals and to develop relevant solutions. This provides a clear opportunity for the United States to exercise strategic leadership, but one entailing a very...

The discourse of consumerism is one in which the language of 'want'...
