The Eleos Foundation hosted Chid Liberty, CEO of Liberty & Justice. Mr. Liberty has established an up-and-coming, Fair Trade franchise clothing factory called the Liberian Women's Sewing Project, which provides jobs, health and education to the women of Liberia. Oak-Land Jr. High students participated in the "Oak-Land/i2P Physical Activity Challenge" 3K/5K run on Friday May 18, 2012. Students worked hard to accomplish their goal of running this distance. Training began in Late February as we followed along an 8 week plan that was given to us by Ray Zahab (Ultramarathon Runner). Approximately 300 students, 15 staff members and some parents and community members participated. It was an absolute blast. Special thanks to the Oak-Land Jr. High Physical Education Dept. (Tera Peterson, Darrell Salmi, Scott Nelson and Ryan Bartosiewski) and to the Technology Dept. (Matt Howe) along with Ray Zahab from impossible2Possible (impossible2Possible.com).

Information about the Community Cords project (facebook.com/communitycords). Two of the biggest reasons why people are trapped in the cycle of poverty are lack of education and inability to earn a decent living. The Community Cords project is attempting to tackle these two head-on in the Cuatro neighbourhood of Metro Manila, Philippines. In partnership with Kids International Ministires (kidsim.org), Community Cords provides employment and a decent wage to poor women. These women, many of whom are single mothers, make bracelets which they sell to Community Cords for distribution overseas. The income these women generate from making and selling these bracelets are making a huge difference in their lives and the lives of their children.
