Ravel described the piece as "an evocation of a pavane that a little princess might, in former times, have danced at the Spanish court". The pavane was a slow processional dance that enjoyed great popularity in the courts of Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This antique miniature is not meant to pay tribute to any particular princess from history, but rather expresses a nostalgic enthusiasm for Spanish customs and sensibilities, which Ravel shared with many of his contemporaries (most notably Debussy and Albéniz) and which is evident in some of his other works such as the Rapsodie espagnole and the Boléro. Ravel dedicated the Pavane to his patron, the Princesse de Polignac. He published it in 1900, but it attracted little attention until the Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes gave the first performance on April 5, 1902.The work soon became very popular, although Ravel came to think if it as "poor in form" and unduly influenced by the music of Chabrier. I'm a big fan of the finer arts, classical music of all forms included. If you're a girl, you're cute, and you love classical, I will marry you. On the spot. Tags (cuz I know youtube doesn't allow repeat tags) I just pretty much confessed my criteria for the perfect girl jk I have a HUGE list of everything I'd want in a dream girl because I like to write everything out for some reason, so I have a huge list, not so much big expectations, but they're all small little details that I've seen in about 3-4 different girls now, but I'm very picky in my opinion, not saying all other women are subpar, every girl is beautiful (looks & personality) in their own way, but the list would be what kind of beauty I'm looking for. if you're interested, message me for the list lol. but then that'll make you seem creepy.
