Sheikh Ahmed Hussein Deedat (July 1, 1918 August 8, 2005) was an Indian-South African author, lecturer, and orator.[1] A Muslim, he was best known for his numerous inter-religious public debates with evangelical Christians, as well as lectures, most of which were centered around Islam, Christianity and the Bible. He aimed at providing Muslims with theological tools for defending themselves against the intense missionary strivings of many Christian denominations. He used English instead of Arabic or any other language to get his message across to Muslim minorities in the western world. Well yesterday we looked at politics for Christians, we recognize that there is a great passion in politics but at the same time we are to take note, that as believers we are also to pray for the government. Now by all means we are to cast our votes as the Lord leads us, but when the government is formed and confirmed, then it is our responsibility to pray for our government. But what do we pray for? Do we pray that we would be a prosperous nation? Do we pray that our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) will increase? Do we pray for increased military might? Well in 1st Timothy chapter 2 and verse 2, it says we are to pray for kings, and for all that are in authority. For what? That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. I don't think there is a mention here of wealth or military might, but we are to pray today for a peaceable and quiet life, for tranquility. I know politics is a very volatile subject, I know of people when you start talking about politics, they get all fired up, people get really passionate about politics. I can still remember the election fever in Singapore just a year or two ago. And how social media is full of discussions, debates and people really got emotional, got really fired up when politics is raised. Now I think it is a good thing that people are getting more engaged with politics, because ultimately politics is about how lives could be bettered as a result of better governance and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think there is also a danger for Christians to be following the world and to be driven by hot passion and not a cool head.
