The last contest of the season, the 6Star Burton US Open Halfpipe event, came to a dramatic conclusion, with 4 new TTR World Tour champions crowned. A huge crowed turned up to see who would win the TTR Halfpipe Tour trophies as well as the prestigious TTR Overall World Tour titles. After dominating all season Kelly Clark had the fully support of her fans behind her as she dropped in and scored a 83.56 straight out of the gate. Elana Hight surprised everyone knocking Kelly Clark into second place with a great second run Kelly tried to answer in her third run, but had to be happy with second place which was still enough to secure the TTR Halfpipe World Tour title. The Mens competition got off to an explosive Start with Shaun White throwing a 90.44 in the first run. Only the americans were able to keep up with Shauns red hot performance. Benji Farrow landed a great final run to take home 3rd place while Louie Vito gave everything he had, scoring just 1 point less than shaun and taking...

LAAX, Switzerland, March 3rd 2012 - World Champions Kelly Clark (USA) and Iouri Podladchikov win the Burton European Open, on yet another very warm and sunny day in LAAX and each get to take home the $15.000 first prize. Second in the women's competition was American Gretchen Bleiler, followed by Yuki Furihata from Japan. In an exciting men's final, Swiss Iouri Podladtchikov took the win with his second run with a 88.90 score, followed by Danny Davis (USA) and Japanese Ryo Aono. On yet another sunny day in Laax, it was ladies first this morning, with Kelly Clark dominating the first run. With Gretchen Bleiler on her heels, Kelly improved her result in the second run, throwing a beautiful Frontside 900 Frontside grab to Backside 540, going into a massive Frontside 1080 and a Cab 720 Mute to finish it of. Gretchen wasn't able to improve her first result, but managed to hold on to her second place regardless. Yuki Furihata also performed best in her second run and with her 72.63 score...

LAAX/SUI (March 1, 2012) -- Another bluebird day, spring temperatures and an epic Slopestyle course laid the groundwork for one of the Burton European Open's most memorable slopestyle competitions earlier today. Jamie Anderson (USA) successfully defended her title and won the BEO Slopestyle for the second year in a row, while Aleksander Ostreng (NOR) won his first international title today. Both winners took home $15000 and a world-class title to add to their snowboarding resumes. Jamie's winning run included a backside tailslide on the rail, a frontside 360 to backside 180 on the step-up/step-down combo, a Cab 720 nose grab and switch backside 540 Indy grab on the kickers, finishing off with a backside lipslide to frontside 360 melon. Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) managed to get close to Jamie with a top score of 81.80, ending up in second place followed by a new face on the BEO podium, Swiss rider Isabel Derungs, who took third. Mit dieser Theateraufführung soll anlässlich des Holocaust-Gedenktages 2012 an die jüdische Flucht vor den Nazis erinnert werden: Im Februar 1942 sank das marode Schiff "Struma" mit 769 jüdischen Flüchtlingen an Bord im Schwarzen Meer. Die Passagiere wollten Nazi-Europa den Rücken kehren und nach Palästina auswandern. Doch politische Bedenken der Engländer und Türken, sowie ein nichtfunktionie- render Motor hielten das Schiff über zwei Monate in Istanbul auf. Die Menschen mussten in menschenunwürdigen Bedingungen hausen und wurden nicht an Land gelassen. Letztlich schleppte das türkische Militär die "Struma" zurück ins Schwarze Meer, wo es dann wahrscheinlich von einem sowjetischen U-Boot versenkt wurde. Ein Stück über einen Juden, auf der Suche nach der eigenen religiösen Identität, über Flucht und über die Weltpolitik, die vor dem Leid der Juden die Augen verschlossen hat. In dem Theaterstück erzählt einer der Passagiere die Geschichte...

Luke Mitrani (Stratton Mountain, VT) put down a huge first run to win. "This is crazy because I didn't even snowboard this summer. I just skateboarded a lot and took my mind off snowboarding, so to jump back into it is crazy to win a contest. I'm shocked. My strategy was to just focus on my riding and feed off of other people. When someone does something big it makes me want to ride even harder for myself." Pro Halfpipe Team member Greg Bretz (Anaheim) placed third behind defending champion Louie Vito (Columbus, OH) in a contest full of upping the ante, as riders put down frontside 12s and a even few back-to-back double cork 10s while afternoon shadows moved over the Copper halfpipe. The Copper Grand Prix had some major influence on the TTR Rankings. New leader of the TTR Halfpipe World Tour Ranking is Louie Vito, after coming in second here at Copper Mountain.
