Between Elroy and Camp Douglas is a couple block long ex railroad tunnel, part of the Chicago and North Western. From Camp Douglas the CNW tracks continued on to Wyeville with a line of boxcars stored on the line. Looks like Canadian Pacific does at least some business at Camp Douglas. The siren at 3:26 is the Volunteer Fire Dept noon sounding (before radios that was THE way to call the Firemen, now many of them have many different sounds Fire, weather, and more)

I'm not sure what call this engine was responding to, but it must have not been too much of an emergency because she passed me on her back to the fire house when I was at Narragansett Ave., or approximately 5 minutes after I recorded this. Here, I was on my way back home from having walked to Ody's Drive-Thru for a double turkey burger when I heard 125 from the local fire station coming down Grand Avenue and pulled out my camera. This is a beautiful fire engine. I love Chicago fire engines and fire trucks in general. I gotta admit though, I've driven down Grand Avenue way faster on this same stretch than this fire engine was going. This was recorded at Grand Avenue and Moody Avenue (6100 W, 2200 N, approx.) on Thursday, May 17th, 2012 with a Samsung Epic Galaxy S II 8.0 MP camera.

This video proves that even a small fire can cause major headaches for firefighters, thankfully Lake Station as usual had an awesome response time. If they were another five minutes out the building would have surely been involved other than some melted siding. The call came in just after 11am for some type of fire next to the food pantry at Columbus Park. On arrival a lawnmower was for engulfed in flames. Crews quickly stretched a line and knocked the fire. Nobody was injured at the fire scene. Once again, awesome job by LSFD

Seven residents were displaced in Friday night's fire on Lincoln Avenue, which remains under investigation, fire officials said Saturday. Firefighters arrived at 1243 Lincoln Ave. shortly after 7 pm Friday to find that not only that house was burning, but that flames had spread to 1245 Lincoln Ave. Preliminary reports indicate the fire originated on the front, first-floor room of 1243 Lincoln Ave., officials said. It quickly extended through the first floor, second floor and into the attic, eventually causing the roof to collapse. The roof at 1245 Lincoln Ave. also eventually collapsed. Homeowner Margaret Hart, of 1243 Lincoln Ave., was advised that her two dogs and two cats remained unaccounted for Saturday. Hart's husband, Raymond, said Friday he had attempted to rescue the animals, but to no avail. "There was too much (smoke) coming out the back. I couldn't get to them," he said.
