Thousands of people in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, have cheered on a 16-year-old boy with one leg who hopes to compete in the Paralympics. Ben Fox, a wheelchair basketball player, was applauded for his tenacity in covering the 300m. NATO leaders have returned home with formal agreement on Afghan forces to take charge of security in their country by the middle of next year. But analysts have warned that the speed of the pullout still needs to be determined by conditions on the ground. And there are still big questions about whether the Afghans security forces will be ready. NATO leaders in Chicago have agreed combat operations in Afghanistan should be handed over to local forces by the middle of next year. It will be "the moment when throughout Afghanistan people can look out and see their own troops and police stepping up to the challenge", said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The agreement is seen as a milestone in the country's future, with NATO leaders united in their long-term support. That means a commitment in terms of training, advising and assisting Afghan security forces. NATO has agreed to form a new mission to deliver this from 2014. But the other part of the commitment is money to pay for Afghanistan's security forces to continue keeping the country safe when they go-it-alone. Not all that money has been committed yet, although other nations have now joined the likes of Britain and America in pledging funds.
