The Sonelastic® comprises advanced solutions based on the impulse excitation technique for nondestructive characterization of materials with regards to the elastic modulus and damping (internal friction) at room and high temperatures. The moduli measured are the Young's module, shear module and the Poisson rate. It is suitable for specimen with regular geometries as square bars, cylinders, tube, plates, discs and rings. The technique consists essentially to excite the specimen under test with a mechanical impulse (a small strike or tap) which can be provided by a manual or electronic impulser. The sample acoustic response contains the resonance frequencies and attenuation information which are processed by the software o electronics in order to calculate the elastic modulus and damping. MoviTHERM - Advanced Thermography Solutions "Composite Check" is a state-of-the-art non destructive testing system for composite materials. It is based on Lockin-Thermography and uses thermal cameras to detect defects in composite materials. An excitation source (heat source) is used to warm up the material (eg halogen lamp). Defects such as delaminations, disbands, voids, cracks and foreign material inclusions will heat up and cool down at a different rate compared to the material surrounding them. This difference in the rate of change in temperature causes a phase shift in temperature and is displayed as defect or difference in contrast in the resulting thermal image. This method allows defects to be found that are 1/4" to 1/2" below the surface. It also reveals the structural composition of the materials, eg the fiber layup and orientation of eg carbon fibers.
