Using a series of silly assumed names, such as Vinnie Boombatz, Kris Kringle, and Charlie Brown, Gerry Crispin (the real person), applied for jobs at 100 of the best companies to work for. Sadly, only 32 percent of the companies responded when the position was filled. That means 68 percent did nothing. That's a bad candidate experience, said Crispin (@gerrycrispin), Co-founder of CareerXroads Colloquium. While he's seen a lot of problems out there, he doesn't want to just beat up on companies. He has actually been working with other recruiters to recognize companies that do have good hiring practices. I caught up with Crispin after his panel discussion to chat about which companies' hiring practices he's most impressed by. While he couldn't say one company got everything right, he was impressed by some specific efforts from a certain number of companies such as Pepsi, Sage, RMS, and State Farm. In almost all cases, anything I watched on my iPad seemed just as sharp and colorful as my HDTV and much sharper than my laptop screen. Top it off the device is quiet with no mechanical fans running in the background so your watching experience is really luxury stuff. I would note the external speaker is nothing special and that any type of TV or movie watching should be accompanied by a nice set of comfy headphones.
